A Swiss woman working for an aid organisation in Somalia was shot dead on Friday by an unidentified gunman, government officials and residents said. Officials in the port town of Merca, 90 km south of the capital Mogadishu, said the woman was gunned down in the street late on Friday evening.
"We're trying to capture the man responsible for this killing," Jamac Ali, a member of the local government administration, told Reuters by telephone on Saturday.
Ali said the woman, who he said was about 60 years old, had been living in Merca for several years and headed a small charity that ran a school and a clinic. Bureau Report
