Kharar, June 12: A local court today remanded former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's NRI cousin Nirottam Singh Dhillon to police custody till June 14 in connection with corruption and disproportionate assets case registered against Badal's 'trusted lieutenant' and officer on special duty' last year. Duty magistrate Ranjan Kumar Khullar directed the prosecution to produce the accused before the magistrate in Kharar on Saturday.
Arrested from his Shimla apartment on Wednesday, Punjab vigilance bureau SP Surinder Pal Singh produced the accused before the court here. The court issued search warrants of Dhillon's three different residences located at Shimla, Mehrauli farmhouse near Delhi and Badal village in Muktsar district. It also directed to get the accused medically examined.
It was argued that Dhillon was very close to Badal family and he, in connivance with Bhamra, used to collect huge amount from the public and pass it on to his political bosses. It was further alleged that Dhillon had accepted Rs 20 lakh from SP, Shiv Kumar for his promotion as SSP and so on.
The court was informed that during preliminary interrogation, the accused has confessed that he had got Rs 1.16 crore from Bhamra, who was suspected to be hiding at his Mehrauli farmhouse. Bureau Report
