Nasik, June 06: NBA leader Medha Patkar today ended
her 7-day old indefinite fast demanding rehabilitation of
Tribals affected by Sardar Sarovar project after the
Maharashtra government accepted all their demands.
After taking a glass of lemon juice from two senior
tribal leaders of NBA, Patkar announced that the state
government has granted NBA's main demands and decided to
prepare a draft for sanction.
Earlier, Patkar was discharged from Nasik Civil Hospital,
where she was forcibly admitted on Wednesday evening by police
following deterioration in her condition.
From the hospital Patkar went straight to the spot
outside divisional commissioner's office at Nasik road where
NBA activists had been holding 12-day old dharna over the same
issue. The dharna was also withdrawn following government
acceptance of the demand.
Patkar told reporters that the demands were accepted during the meeting between Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Chief Secretary Ajit Nimbalkar, state minister for rehabilitation Ramraje Nimbalkar with NBA leaders in Mumbai on Wednesday and Thursday. The issues would be discussed at a cabinet meeting on June 11, she added.
