Chandigarh, Oct 09: It was the turn of former Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal's son, Sukhbir, to be interrogated today by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau officials, who had quizzed the Akali Dal chief and his wife yesterday in connection with the graft cases against the Badal family.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, who had twice ducked the PVB's notice directing him to appear before the investigating agency, was accompanied by a large number slogan-shouting supporters to the office of the economic offence wing (EOW) where a large police posse had been deployed.
There were arguments between the police and party leaders, including former SGPC president Jagir Kaur, Gagandeep Singh Barnala and Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal (all MLAs) and Zora Singh Mann, MP, before Sukhbir could gain entry into the Vigilance Bureau office. Later party MLA Manpreet Singh Badal, who is nephew of Parkash Singh Badal, was also allowed to go inside the building.
Sukhbir's plea that he might be questioned at his official residence in delhi was rejected by the Vigilance Bureau director A P Pandey after the Akali leader failed to turn up on October 06. He also did not turn up for questioning before the Vigilance Bureau officials on October 03. It was for the second consecutive day that the Vigilance Bureau interrogated the badal family in connection with the graft cases. Yesterday, Akali Dal chief Prakash Singh Badal and his wife Surender Kaur were quizzed by the sleuths in disproportionate assets case.
