Aug 31: Australian Adam Scott broke Justin Rose's one-day-old course record with a 62 to take the lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship Scott's round gave him a halfway score of 131 - 11 under par - two ahead of Fiji's Vijay Singh, who shot a 68.
Australian Geoff Ogilvy and first-round leader Rose (71) were tied for third place on 134, eight under. Tiger Woods bogeyed four of the first seven holes and was in danger of missing his first PGA Tour cut since the 1997 Canadian Open. But the world number one birdied six of the final 11 holes to card a 69 for a three-under-par total of 139.

Scott, 23, who has won three international events but none on the PGA Tour, cruised to a six-under 30 on his back nine, the outward half at the TPC at Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.

He eagled the par-five second hole and birdied the fourth and fifth before opening his two-stroke lead with birdies at the seventh and ninth.
Scott, who is an overnight leader for the first time on the PGA Tour, said victory would boost a season he had felt was at best mediocre.

"That would be a pretty big boost to the confidence, winning over here," he said.

"I definitely feel the difference in pressure out on the course over here.

"I think just the crowd does it. Obviously they are very boisterous over here."

Scott won the European Tour's Scandinavian Masters and finished third at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship but said he was not satisfied with his displays this year.

"I'm a little disappointed with the way the year has gone, just consistency wise," he said.

"When I've played well, I've played quite well but most of the time I've played quite poorly and I've missed a lot of cuts this year."
