Srinagar, Aug 06: Nine people, including five ultras and a jawan, were killed in separate incidents while eight militants were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said today. A security jawan was killed when militants opened fire on a patrol party at Zandpal in Baramulla district, the sources said adding the militants fled when security men retaliated.
One Abdul Ahad Khan and his son Ishtiaq were beheaded by militants after dragging them out of their house in Sangrampora also in Baramulla district last night, they said.
A civilian Imtiyaz Ahmad was shot dead by militants at Aloochibagh in Pulwama district, the sources said.
A BSF spokesman said two local Jaish-e-Mohammad militants, including a self-styled group commander, were killed in a fierce gunfight at Laragam in Pulwama district last night.
The encounter took place when the troops raided a house in the village, the spokesman said and identified the slain as group commander Ghulam Mohammad Hajam and Fayaz Ahmad Thakkar.
In another encounter, troops killed a Lashker-e-Toiba militant, Abu Sayeed of Pakistan, during search operations at Warnov in Kupwara district, the sources said.
Army and police launched a joint operation in Kot Chadwal area in Rajouri district of Jammu today and gunned down two militants, they said.
In Kashmir valley, security forces arrested eight ultras, two from different hospitals, while in Jammu they rescued seven recruits from militants clutches in Banihal area of Doda, the sources said.
