The Congress government in Uttaranchal would approach the Centre if the division of assets between the state and Uttar Pradesh was not finalised at an early date, party affairs in-charge in UP Moti Lal Vora said on Sunday. The Uttaranchal government had written to the UP government demanding early division of assets between the two states but if in case of further delay, it would seek Centre's intervention in the matter, he said.

He said the delay was adversely affecting the development of Uttaranchal.

On the upcoming by-polls to a Lok Sabha seat and three assembly seats in the state, he said Congress was the only party which was contesting the by-polls on its own.

He said the rebel party candidate from Baheri Assembly seat has been expelled from the party. Vora lambasted the Samajwadi Party for not fielding its candidate from Dibai Assembly constituency and supporting the Rashtriya Kranti Party led by former chief minister Kalyan Singh during whose regime the Babri Masjid was demolished.

He said it showed the SP did not have any regard for secularism.
