Hyderabad, Feb 23: At least five people were killed, and five others injured in an explosion that occurred at the Space Research Centre in Sriharikota on Monday evening.
Three of the grievously injured have been airlifted to Chennai for treatment.
According to Nellore district SP K V Rajendranath Reddy, the blast took place at the solid state base (STROBE) around 4.30 pm. Huge electrical motors kept at the base were also exploded, resulting in the deaths and injuries to the employees working close by.
Dozens of fire tenders from all over the Nellore district have been rushed to Sriharikota to assist the space centre staff in engulfing the fire.

More details about the cause of the fire and the property loss are awaited.
