New Delhi, Feb 17: The Congress today attacked the Vajpayee government for acting as an "agent" of VHP on the Ayodhya issue and said there was no need for it to move the Supreme Court when a title suite is pending before Allahabad High Court. "We are also for expeditious settlement of the Ayodhya case but want to remind the NDA government that the title suite is pending before Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court and there is no need to take it to the Supreme Court", party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.
He accused the NDA government of playing "partisan" politics saying it was "acting as an agent of VHP on the issue".
Asked if the party would be bringing an adjourment motion in Parliament on Ayodhya, he said the party was giving the highest priority to the issue as a situation had been created by the "collusion between government and VHP". But there were other important matters as well like the situation in UP, drought, the Iraq crisis, disinvestment of HPCL and BPCL and government's response to JPC which were to be taken up first.
However, he said the party was holding consultations with the like-minded parties to take on the government on these issues beside discussions within the party. Bureau Report
