Kolkata, Sept 26: FMCG major Hindustan Levers Ltd today decided to lift the lock-out at its Garden Reach plant in Kolkata on September 30, following an agreement with the workers union. The decision to lift the lock-out was taken after HLL management reached an agreement with the Hindustan Levers Shramik Karamchari Union and Hindustan Levers Thika Karamchari Union here this morning following protracted negotiations, an HLL spokesman said.
The Garden Reach soap and detergent plant that employs 1150 workers would start operations from September 30, he said.

He said that in view of the ensuing festive season the management has also agreed to give recoverable advance of Rs 20,000 to each of the employees to be recovered in 30 installments.

The HLL management had declared lock-out at the Garden Reach plant on March 22, 2003, following agitation by the employees as well as contract labourers. Bureau Report
