Left parties to field Capt Lakshmi Sahgal for president poll
New Delhi, June 14: Left parties today decided to field captain Lakshmi Sahgal, who led the Rani Jhansi regiment of Subhash Chandra Bose`s Indian National Army, against NDA`s presidential nominee A P J Abdul Kalam.

This was announced by CPM general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet, CPI leader A B Bardhan, Abani Roy (RSP) and S Deverajan (Forward Bloc).
The leaders said former prime ministers H D Deva Gowda and V P Singh, who were out of station, have expressed full support to the candidature of Sahgal.
Captain Sahgal has given her consent saying, “As in the past, I am always willing to fight a political battle,” the leaders quoted her as saying.
Surjeet and Bardhan criticised Congress and Samajwadi Party for changing their stands and rallying behind the BJP. Bureau Report
