Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf will be the third head of Pakistan government to visit the dargah (mausoleum) of Sufi saint Khwaja Moiunuddin Chishti in Ajmer. Late Gen. Zia-ul-haq and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had made the pilgrimage to the dargah in the past, secretary of "anjuman ", an organisation of Dargah Khadims Sarvar Chishty said.
Two invitations by Sayed Zainul Abedin, Sazzada Nashin of the dargah and Shabir Nukshbardi, a former member of the dargah committee, had been sent to Musharraf last month. The "anjuman" also sent a formal "dawatnama" (invitation) to him through the ambassador of Pakistan in India after official announcement of Mushrraf's proposed visit to hold a summit meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In view of his visit, police has started clearing undesired elements from the dargah area. A strict watch is being maintained on suspected characters, officials said. Barricades are being erected on the road leading to the shrine from dargah bazar, they said adding the Ajmer helipad is being spruced up where the guest is supposed to land. Bureau Report
