India has sought necessary adjustments in the ten-year old indo-Nepal trade treaty, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh stated in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Making a statement on his recent goodwill visit to Nepal, Singh said that India's continuing concerns on clandestine use of Nepal's territory for anti-India activities by Pakistan's ISI were also conveyed to Kathmandu.
Nepal gave a firm assurance that any such activity would not be tolerated and that necessary steps would be taken. He said that some apprehensions had been voiced in the Nepalese media about the renewal of the existing trade treaty.
Congress members vociferously protested against copies of the statement not being made available to them in advance. After loud exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches, deputy speaker P M Sayeed said the copies would be given after the minister made the statement.
