Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Monday New Zealand special air services soldiers were operating in Afghanistan and were backed by two Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules aircraft.
She was quoted by radio New Zealand as stating this to reporters, and joking that life was full of surprises. Although New Zealand offered SAS soldiers soon after the September 11 attacks in the United States, Wellington had so far steadfastly refused any comment on deployments.
Clark did not reveal where the soldiers were, what the Hercules were doing and how long they have been engaged. Bureau Report
