Washington, Aug 16: Indian missions and NRIs in the United States have celebrated the 57th Independence Day with the usual gaiety by hoisting the Indian tri-colour and holding other ceremonies including cultural events and food bazaars. In some cities, there will be parades to mark Indian independence later this week. New York will have a major parade while in Chicago, prominent Indians and Americans will be honoured by the Consulate General. However, many who wished to attend the August 15 programme in New York could not go because of the impact of Thursday's massive power failure. Bureau Report
