According to the Zee News-Cvoter exit poll, Delhi will give Sheila Dikshit a second term, while Uma Bharati will dislodge Digvijay Singh in Madhya Pradesh. It could be anyone’s way in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, though Congress has an edge in the desert state. Statistics collected after polling indicated a clear victory for Congress in the national capital with 44-52 seats of the total 70. BJP, despite a 3 % swing in its favour will gather just 12-20 seats.
In Madhya Pradesh, the story is just the opposite. BJP, with a 4% swing in its favour, will get 109-125 seats against Congress’ 79-95. In an assembly of 230, alliances could play a crucial role especially with BSP expected to grab a few seats of its own. Digvijay Singh has improved his tally in the exit poll compared to the data in opinion polls, indicating a blitz of campaigning might have helped him gain ground at the last moment.
In Rajasthan, it’s a close call but it looks like Ashok Gehlot has a fairer chance. Congress is likely to win 91-107 seats of the total 200. With BJP’s 86-102 seats it could also be a hung assembly. The lotus party also seems to have gained a 7% positive swing under Vasundhararaje Scindia.
Chhattisgarh has kept every one guessing through all opinion polls and is continuing to do so in the exit poll. The 90-member assembly is split right down to the centre with Congress likely to capture 39-47 seats while BJP will prove good in 36-44. But Congress faces a 1% negative swing and BJP gains a 1% vote share.
The results of the survey were arrived at by interviewing 3000 plus people across the four states.
