Bhopal, July 28: Giving a new twist to the politics of alliance, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today said his party would not form any front (morcha) with other parties but it would have an understanding on the basis of common programmes at the national level. "Our experience of having a morcha on earlier occasion was not good as it takes longer time to take decisions on important issues and also affects the chances of capable leaders contesting polls," he said.
"Therefore, the party has decided not to form any morcha with other parties and would rather go for 'taalmel' (understanding) on the basis of common programmes at the national level," Yadav told reporters here at the end of the party's three-day meeting to review its preparation for the forthcoming assembly polls. On the issue of Congress deciding at its Shimla conclave to form an alliance at the national level with Sonia Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate, he said such an issue would be decided by elected members of the parties at that time.
Referring to the issue of foreign origin of the Congress president, Yadav said the issue was taken up by the former Lok Sabha speaker and NCP leader P A Sangma and added the matter was already settled by the court. He said his party was not in favour of having a common civil code in the country as it believed in not interfering with anybody's religion.
Yadav said for the forthcoming assembly polls, the state units of his party would send their recommendations to the central leadership and added that SP would contest the polls on its own in these states. Bureau Report
