Rochester (New York), Aug 16: Phil Mickelson found
himself struggling to stay in red figures after running up two
double bogeys in the second round of the PGA champiopsnhip
here.
The 33-year-old American began the day as joint leader
with unheralded Australian Rodney Pampling at four-under and
things looked to be going his way when he got to five-under
after four thanks to a birdie at the par-5 fifth.
But suddenly it all began to go horribly wrong as he found water on the par-4 fifth.
More water two holes later and Mickelson, trying to put paid to his tag as the best player not to have won a major, was struggling.
He reached the turn in three-over 38 and two shots adrift of Tim Herron, who moved atop the leader board when he got it to three-under after 11 holes.

Papmpling also found himself struggling. He lost his share of the lead thanks to a double bogey at the par-three third.
The unheralded Aussie flew his tee shot over the green and then over-hit his approach.
The ball dropped behind the flag, caught the down slope and rolled 20 yards off the green into light rough.
It took Pampling three more to get down dropping him to two-under for the tournament.
More bogeys and suddenly he was at level par with five
holes to go.
