Jaunpur (UP), Nov 04: The Centre has asked the states hit by naxalite problem to raise a separate police force to deal with the menace effectively and assured them that funds would not be a problem for this. The Union government has told these states that funds would not prove to be an impediment in dealing with the problem and Uttar Pradesh alone is being provided Rs. 228 crores for raising the force, Union Minister of State for Home Swmai Chinmayanad told newspersons here today.
A meeting of states affected by naxal problem like Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh was also convened and the Union government has asked them to take effective action in controlling the problem, he said adding that besides a special package has also been provided for rehabilitating the adivasi victims of naxalism.
To a question, Chinmayanand said the Union government wanted to fully equip the police force in order to ensure a better check on crime in the country for which it planned to provide better weapons , computers and proper vehicles.
On terrorism, he said the country has successfully managed to build international opinion against terrorist outfits.
He congratulated Uttar Pradesh police for its concerted efforts in maintaining peace and order in Ayodhya during the VHP-sponsored programme on October 17.
