Indore, June 01: The police today registered cases against five Army officers for allegedly indulging in fracas and beating innocent persons, including policemen, following a dispute with a shopowner here.
The incident occurred last night on busy AB road near the industry house here when an Army officer picked up a quarrel with a shopowner and was joined by other young officers, police said.
When the police intervened, the Army officers did not spare them too and later ran away from the spot, they said, adding an alert was sounded and finally they were detained at the police station.
Senior Army officials from Mhow cantonment intervened and took the officers from the police station, police said.
People of the area disrupted traffic on AB road in protest to the incident. The blockade was lifted following an assurance by mayor Kailash Vijaywargiya that he would write to defence minister George Fernandes in this regard, they said.
The district administration, meanwhile, would send a report and a video recording of the incident to the state government, sources said.
