Kathmandu, July 10: Incessant monsoon rains that triggered landslides and lightning have killed nearly 50 people in the past month and left several others missing in various parts of Nepal, officials said in Kathmandu on Thursday.

At least 24 people were killed due to floods and landslides following heavy rains in about a dozen districts of eastern and central Nepal, media reports quoted home ministry spokesperson Gopendra Bahadur Pandey as saying.
Another 25 people were killed after being struck by lightning in different parts of the country, he said.
At least ten others were injured in landslides, 'The Rising Nepal' daily quoted him as saying.
Torrential rains have also destroyed property worth millions of rupees besides flooding thousands of acres of cultivable land.
So far over 1,100 households have been directly hit by floods and landslides, Pandey said.
The government has already sent Rs 21.3 million in assistance to the regional administration offices in all the five development regions of the country to carry out relief works besides giving Rs 5.5 million to severely hit areas. Bureau Report
