Srinagar, Oct 21: The Congress and PDP will today hold second round of high-level talks to break the deadlock over the chief ministership issue in Jammu and Kashmir. There was apparently no breakthrough during the parleys held yesterday.
Senior congress leader Manmohan Singh, deputed by party high command to break the political stalemate, held one-to-one talks with PDP chief Mufti Mohammed sayeed here for nearly an hour yesterday. Emerging from the meeting, Singh told reporters he would be meeting the Mufti again today. He was tight-lipped about what transpired at the meeting. The Mufti declined to talk to the media. Both Congress and PDP termed as "inconclusive" Sunday`s talks between Sayeed and Singh. Immediately after Singh-Sayeed talks, the political affairs committee of PDP went into a session to formulate the next course of action of the party. Prior to his talks with the PDP chief, Singh met Congress MLAs and four independent legislators to ascertain their views and held discusions with PCC chief and chief ministerial aspirant Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior congress leader Saif-ud-din Soz. Informed sources said Singh had, during talks with the Mufti, offered deputy chief minister`s post for Mehbooba Mufti, daughter of the PDP chief. Bureau Report
