New Delhi, Oct 14: Enforcing the model code ahead of the coming assembly polls, the election commission today banned in Chhattisgarh distribution of school bags with Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's photograph embossed on them. The commission took the decision after taking into account a representation that the congress government in the state was distributing school bags with Jogi's photo free of cost through its tribal welfare department.

The poll panel was informed that the distribution of these bags had been completed in three districts and in the rest, they would be given in the next few days, official sources said.

In a communication to the Chhattisgarh chief secretary, the commission said after considering the representation, it "has desired you to ensure that the distribution of school bags with the photo of Ajit Jogi is stopped with immediate effect".
Polling for assembly elections in the state is scheduled for December 1.
