Porayar, Oct 13: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, will be launching today various developmental projects to the tune of Rs 261 crore, including a Rs 98.85 crore drinking water scheme for Nagapattinam district.
The Minister said the Chief Minister would also be launching a Rs five crore project to give face lift to the port here, which was expected to be completed in 30 months time.
He said the Chief Minister would be distributing benefits under various welfare schemes to 17,000 beneficiaries.
The district collector M Veerashanmughamoni, who was also present, said under the alternate crop cultivation scheme, announced recently by the Chief Minister, steps were being taken to undertake alternate crop cultivation in about 1880 hectares in the district.
A pilot scheme, black and green gram crops were being raised in 159 hectares, groundnuts in 306 hectares, gingelly in 1202 hectares, vegetables in 52 hectares and sun flower in 34 hectares, he said.
