Pre-poll surveys disturb BJP, says real picture not presented
New Delhi, Oct 27: With some pre-poll surveys predicting poor showing by it in Delhi, a disturbed BJP today dismissed the sampling as being far from reality and asserted that even in `worst circumstances` the party would bag between 45 and 50 seats in the 70-member assembly.
New Delhi, Oct 27: With some pre-poll surveys predicting poor showing by it in Delhi, a disturbed BJP today dismissed the sampling as being far from reality and asserted that even in "worst circumstances" the party would bag between 45 and 50 seats in the 70-member assembly.
"Victory for BJP in Delhi is a foregone conclusion despite some baseless surveys," party spokesman V K Malhotra told a press conference in the presence of Delhi BJP president Madan Lal Khurana seeking to belie the projections.
"According to the most conservative calculations of the BJP, it should get between 45 and 50 seats in delhi in the worst circumstances and even if the congress votes do not divide," he said.
Malhotra said surveys conducted by two prominent newspapers had given BJP a clear majority, while a survey done by another newspaper and a news channel has "surprised us".
"These surveys do not present the real picture as these are based on views of a few people," he said adding that prior to Gujarat Assembly elections last year, pre-poll surveys had similarly showed congress leading but BJP won with a two-third majority.
He claimed that Congress would face "bad time" due to anti-incumbency sentiment, alleging that failure of ensuring cleanliness leading to dengue and corruption in power were some of the issues that will turn the tide against the ruling party in Delhi.
