New Delhi, Aug 18: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Somnath Chatterjee today called for removal of the BJP-led NDA government ``lock, stock, and barrel`` describing it as ``incompetent`` and ``anti-people``, and oblivious to the sufferings of the common man. The vast majority of the people who are facing problems due to the ``misgovernance`` of the government are waiting for an opportunity to throw out the government in the elections, he said speaking on the no-confidence motion against Vajpayee in the Lok Sabha.

Chatterjee said the no-confidence motion was likely to be defeated by the ``temporary majority contrived by the BJP with a totally opportunistic combination``, but the vast majority of people outside parliament, who do not support the corrupt government and beleive in secularism, would consign this government to the ``dustbin of history``. The CPI-M leader said that there was nothing common in the ideologies of the NDA partners. ``the only that is keeping them together is the sharing of the loaves of office,`` he said.

There is no policy or ideology in the NDA, ``but they only want to enjoy the fruits of power,`` he said.

Referring to the arrest of MDMK leader Vaiko, he said he lost his freedom due to his ally the BJP not raising the voice against it and not protesting to the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu just for the sake of the 11 votes of the AIADMK. If the no-confidence motion is passed, Vaiko would win his freedom, he said.

Hitting out at the government for its failure on various fronts, he said that the NDA government had no achievement to boast of. There was greater impoverishment and greater unemployment. There were attacks on institutions and educational bodies and also saffronisation. Corruption is at its peak and there is calculated and brutal attacks on the democratic rights. The economic interests of the country were being sold off through deliberate sale of vital public enterprises which had contributed so much to the development of the country, he said.
