Lucknow, Dec 10: V K Diwan was today appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh succeeding controversial Akhand Pratap Singh whose extension to the post was challenged in the Supreme Court for alleged corruption. The orders in this regard were issued today, according to an official spokesman here.
Diwan will continue to hold the additional charge of agriculture production commissioner until further orders, the spokesman said.
Singh was appointed chief secretary by Mulayam Singh Yadav government in September and given three months extension on October 31 when he was to retire from service
A local journalist had challenged his extension in the Supreme Court alleging serious corruption charges against him.
Singh was identified as the most corrupt IAS officer in 1997 by the state IAS Officers' Association.
