Montreal, July 28: Some 200 protesters opposed to the World Trade Organization's informal meeting here smashed store windows on Montreal's main commercial street, just hours before the three-day gathering of some 25 trade ministers was scheduled to start. Demonstrators targetted a Burger King restaurant and a gap clothing store on the Rue Sainte-Catherine, a street brimming with shops. Trade ministers were to seek common ground over the divisive issues of farm subsidies and medicine for poorer countries, among other issues. The three-day meeting here is seen as crucial before the 146-member World Trade Organization's ministerial summit in Cancun, Mexico in September. Bureau Report
