Pakistani Police believe executed Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was murdered more than a week ago and fear that they may never find his body, an authoritative Pakistani police source said on Saturday. The source, who asked not to be identified, said police had examined a videotape that was received on Thursday and showed Pearl's slaying and they had since interrogated suspects already in custody.
"Our main focus of the investigation at the moment is finding the body," the source told reporters. "But we are very pessimistic about finding the body because we think he was executed more than one week ago." Pearl disappeared in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, on January 23 as he tried to contact Islamic radical groups and investigate possible links between alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid and the Al Qaeda network of suspected September 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.
