Mumbai, Oct 16: Former chairman of Maharashtra Public Service Commission P D Vani, held in connection with the multi-crore answer paper scam, was today further remanded to police custody till October 21 by a special court.
Vani was produced by ACB before a special court Judge P N Deshmukh who remanded him to custody till October 21. ACB had recovered incriminating documents from his house on October 6. A search was also conducted on his office on the next day following which he was arrested.
Seeking his remand, prosecutor R V Kini, argued that the investigations were still inconclusive and anti-corruption bureau wanted to confront Vani with other accused.
Police had filed chargesheet against 13 accused on September 25 and sought permission to file supplementary chargesheet against others later.
The accused had allegedly taken bribe ranging from Rs three lakh to Rs five lakh in each case and had conspired to replace answer sheets of 399 students who had appeared for MPSC written test for the post of sales tax inspector.
