Srinagar, Dec 21: For the first time, the Centre has stepped in to help the dependents of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel killed while fighting militants, distributing Rs 30 lakh to the kins of 36 local police personnel shot dead by ultras in Pulawama and Anantnag district today. CRPF Inspector General (Operations) R K Sharma handed over cheques to 36 beneficiaries from the two districts at a function in Awantipora in south Kashmir.
Senior civil and police officers of the two districts attended the function.
Lauding the role of state police personnel in fighting militancy, Sharma said similar functions will be organised shortly in other district headquarters of Budgam, Baramulla and Kupwara to honour the next of kins of the slain police personnel.
CRPF and J&K Police have better compatibility and understanding helping them function as a well-knit team, he added. Bureau Report
