New Delhi, June 22: Even as the fresh formula for resolving the Ayodhya issue proposed by the Shankaracharya Jayandra Saraswati to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board is yet to be disclosed, Shankaracharya of Prayag, Madhavanand Sarasawti, said today the pontiff should have discussed his
proposals with other Hindu religious leaders before forewarning them to AIMPLB.
"Jayandra Saraswati made a grave mistake by not discussing the formula with other Shankaracharyas before sending it to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. We demand an apology for his mistake," he told reporters.
He said there was no consensus among organisations like VHP, RSS, Ram Janambhoomi Nyas on the Kanchi Shankaracharya's formula and steps taken before achieving it would only create rift among different Hindu religious leaders and organisations. Madhavanand said that all concerned parties to the Ayodhya issue should be ready to accept a court verdict if discussions failed to achieve any result.
He also suggested that if the excavation undertaken by the Archeological Survey of India finds proof of the existence of any temple prior to building of the mosque, then the Muslim community should give up their claim over the disputed land. And if the excavation proves that the mosque was built in an open space, then the Hindu organisations should come forward for a compromise, he said.
