At least two people were seriously injured in an explosion inside a car in central Israel on Wednesday, and police said they suspected a suicide bomber was behind the blast. The explosion near the Israeli Arab town of Taibeh, close to the West Bank, sent smoke billowing up from the car, a witness told Israel's Army Radio. Helicopters later flew overhead.
The blast blew up the car on a road about 100 metres (yards) from a bridge and wrecked the vehicle.
Police did not give the identity of the two people who were seriously hurt and did not confirm radio reports that a third person had also been injured.
Asked whether the blast had been caused by a suicide bomber, a police spokesman said: "That is our assessment." Bureau Report
