Kohima, Oct 26: A day ahead of Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's three-day maiden visit to Nagaland, the Congress today demanded inclusion of all sections of Naga society in peace talks to find a permanent solution to the long-standing problem. The NPCC president and former Chief Minister, S C Jamir, told newsmen here that the Congress would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister focusing on the Naga political problem and development needs of the state,
Past experiences showed that ad hoc or interim arrangements created more problems and as such the talks must include all sections of Naga society directly or indirectly to make the settlement broadbased, Jamir said.
Any settlement must ensure a 'political framework' which is more comprehensive than the 16-point agreement reached between the Naga People's Convention and Centre in 1960 that led to the formation of Nagaland in 1963.
He regretted that the Centre was engaged only with the NSCN (IM), although it had declared a cease-fire with NSCN (K), leaving out other sections of Naga society.
Jamir said that the party would also urge the Prime Minister to enforce the agreed ground rules of the cease-fire agreement in Nagaland, asserting that there must be complete cessation of hostility in the state.
