Lahore, Aug 02: Two-year-old Pakistani girl Noor Fatima, whose successful heart surgery in India raised hopes for reconciliation in South Asia, returned home to a warm reception last night with her parents beaming with joy. Noor fatima travelled by bus from New Delhi, crossing the Wagah check-point at about 1200 GMT (1730 IST) to a warm welcome from her relatives and a battery of reporters and photographers.
Fatima looked happy in her mother's lap, despite the 11-hour journey. But the camera flashes upset her and she started weeping when an anxious crowd surrounded her.
"Her condition is satisfactory, she is recovering steadily," Fatima's father Nadeem Sajjad told reporters. Noor's mother Tayyaba affectionately kissed her six-year old son, Tahseen, and four-and-half-year-old daughter Mahrukh, who had stayed behind.
The toddler's surgery was paid for by Indian donations and the child has since become a living symbol of peace hopes between India and Pakistan. Bureau Report
