Karachi, Jan 26: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has said that former captains Waqar Younis and Rashid Latif were assets of Pakistan cricket and they must not give up hope of playing at the international level again.
Calling the duo "strong assets of Pakistan cricket", Khan said that they would definitely be considered for future assignments including the Indian series and their job was to keep on playing at the domestic level and keep themselves match fit."
"I think they are as much under consideration as any other player depending on their form and fitness. I don't agree with the assessment of the former chairman (Tauqir Zia) that the careers of these two players are over. Cricket is their livelihood and they have every right to keep on playing and hope they would be selected again for Pakistan ."
About the future of coach Javed Miandad and manager Haroon Rasheed he said that they would continue for the upcoming Indian series. "These two are basically the employees of the board and are employed on annual contracts. Their contracts are till April 2004. And I don't see any reason to change them now. They will continue," he added. Bureau Report
