New Delhi, Apr 20: Two years after clearing the sale of US-Israeli manufactured Phalcon radars for India's ambitious Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS), Washington is still to give the go ahead for the supply and New Delhi has expressed its deep concern over the long delay. Labelled a top priority programme, the Indian Air Force, has finalised late last year the specifications for the complex project, a joint venture between Israel, Russia and India to mount state of art Phalcon and Greenpine radars on an IL-76 platform for a force multiplier AWACS system. India is understood to have expressed "deep concern" to a visiting US Congressional team over the long delay in supply of "Phalcon" radars though the deal was initially cleared by Washington in 2001.
This was conveyed to four Congressmen - Joseph Crowley, Shiela Jackson-Lee, Chris Bell and Kendrick B Meek - during their recent meeting with Defence Minister George Fernandes, official sources said.

All four are members of India Caucus, which has been of immense help in articulating India's concerns and positions in US Congress and Administration to support stronger Indo-US relations and thwarting anti-India legislations. Bureau Report
