Sports Minister Uma Bharti on Thursday congratulated the Indian team for its superb 10-wicket victory over England in the first Test at Mohali. Besides praising leg spinner Anil Kumble and offie Harbhajan Singh for their match-winning efforts, the minister also singled out debutant Tinu Yohannan for special mention.
While Kumble finished with an impressive match haul of eight wickets, Harbhajan returned with seven. Yohannan also played a crucial role as he struck twice both in the first and second innings for important breakthroughs.
“The victory is specially sweet as it comes after the unsavoury controversy that had world cricket on tenterhooks for quite some time,” Bharti said in a message while referring to the stand-off between International Cricket Council and the Indian cricket board following punishments handed down to six Indian players. “ I hope the players keep up the good work and continue with their winning ways,” she said.
