New Delhi, Oct 27: Inspite of the high alert on the Pathankot-Jammu Highway running close to international border with Pakistan, it proved to be a hot, nerve-wracking 100-km chase for the security forces to corner and kill two Pakistani terrorists near Jammu today. The terrorists, suspected by intelligence agencies to have crossed the Indo-Pak border last night, had triggered explosions in and outside the Delhi-bound Shalimar Express, derailing train traffic on the route for over 12 hours.
And then they indulged in a series of attacks all along the route from Samba, just 12 km from the international border, to Jammu, a distance of 60 km and then to Akhnoor, close to the Line of Control, in a bid to cross over to Pakistan killing five persons, including 3 soldiers as they commandeered a number of cars in their bid to make good their escape.
Not only did the terrorists commandeer escape vehicles at gunpoint, they smashed through a number of security barriers as they covered a 100 km distance to almost near the border in Akhnoor town near Jammu.
The Jammu-Pathankot part of the National Highway has been a scene of number of attacks like the terrorists strike on Kaluchak army base last year in which more than 20 people, mostly families of soldiers were killed leading to Operation Parakaram.
Besides this, terrorists have carried out a number of explosions at Vijaypur, Bari Brahmna and other places, after clandestinely crossing over from Pakistan.
