New Delhi, Dec 08: IT education and training company NIIT has joined hands with NIS Sparta and United Nations Devleopment Programme (UNDP) to create awareness on AIDS in the country. NIS Sparta, a corporate learning solutions company, in a joint initiative with UNDP will cover six lakh NIIT students for spreading awareness on HIV and AIDS among the student community.
"Project outreach", is set to be expanded to all NIIT centres across India covering six lakh students, Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT said here today.
The project, initiated in 2002 is aimed at generating awareness on AIDS related issues and addressing inhibitions of individuals through behavioural transformation. The pilot project was initiated in one of the centres of NIIT Delhi earlier, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Maxine Olson, Resident Representative of UNDP, said corporate social responsibility was the need of the hour to combat diseases like AIDS.
"AIDS has been a major health challenge for governments across the world and in India. There are about 3.8-4.5 million HIV infected patients making India the second largest HIV carrier country in the world", she said adding that in view of the gravity of the threat, it becomes a moral responsibility to check the disease through awareness.
