New Delhi, Oct 22: Optical storage major Moser Baer India will increase prices of its flagship recordable compact discs (CDRs) by 5-10 per cent in January next due to rise in global demand, company's Executive Director Ratul Puri said today. "The rise was expected, the market is buoyant at present and the current demand is much ahead of the supply", he said adding the impact of the increase would be felt in the first quarter of the next fiscal."
The company is currently in negotiations with its 100 overseas customers to effect the increase, he told reporters.
MBIL would announce rise in the domestic prices by the end of this year, Puri said while adding the rise in prices of both the markets (domestic and global) would be more or less at the same time.
Meanwhile, Moser Baer scrip rose to Rs 413.90, before closing at Rs 407.25 on the BSE today. On the NSE, it touched a high of Rs 412.80 before closing at Rs 408.
The company had announced a price rise in April this year.
With more than one billion installed capacity of CDRs, Moser Baer exports mostly to EU and US. The company is currently expanding its plant at Noida which would raise the CDR capacity by 45 per cent on completion.
Apart from CDRs, it also makes DVDs for home entertainment.
