Monaco, Jun 02: Juan Pablo Montoya breathed a huge sigh of relief after winning the Monaco Grand Prix here yesterday to clinch his Williams team's first win in the principality for 20 years.
"We really needed this," said the Colombian after his 0.62 second win over Mclaren's Kimi Raikkonen, the world championship leader.
The Williams duo of Montoya and Ralf Schumacher have struggled this season, and have been heavily criticised by their engine partners BMW for failing to improve their car significantly over the winter.
"Kimi put me under great pressure, but I managed to pull out a lead, two to four seconds and then I could back off a little.
"The car, the tyres and the mechanics worked really well. They were brilliant."

It was only Montoya's second career formula one win following his first at Monza in September 2001 and it came after he had started third on the grid.
