New Delhi, Nov 17: The Indian Newspaper Society today asked Chattisgarh government to thoroughly investigate the reported attack on the house of a special correspondent of the Indian Express and the local office of a TV channel at Raipur for carrying the alleged bribery case story against Dilip Singh Judeo and punish the guilty. "The newspaper and television channel were only performing their duty in exposing corruption in high places," the INS president M P Veerendrakumar, in a statement here, said.
Condemning the attack, he said that in a democracy, the media was duty bound to report such cases without fear and be given full protection by the authorities concerned.
Veerandrakumar said it was incumbent on the state government to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the guilty persons to justice so that "a message is sent out that freedom of press has to be safeguarded and must remain inviolate in our democratic polity."
