Hyderabad, July 28: Top athletes of the country would be seen in action at the GMC Balayogi Stadium here, the venue of the 9th Federation Cup Athletics Meet which begins today.
In all 617 athletes from 17 states and 10 institutions would take part in the three-day event which also serves as an opportunity to improve their rankings to qualify for the World Athletics Championship to be held in Paris next year.
"Indian team for the world meet would be picked up based on the performance in this mega event," organising secretary and State Olympic Association secretary K Ranga Rao said.
Shot putters Bahadur Singh and Shakti Singh, KM Binu, P Ramachandran, Paraamjit Singh, Satbir Singh, Bhupender Singh, Jatashankar and K Manoj Lal are some of the top athletes who are to take part in the meet, Rao said.
Ace sprinter K M Beenamol, Neelam J Singh (discus throw), Bobby Alloysius (high jump), Sunita Rani, Jincy Philips, Manjeet Kaur, Soma Biswas and Madhuri Saxena are the prominent names that figure in the women`s section.



"The confirmed list of players is yet to be prepared," State Olympic Association officials said adding, all arrangements had been made for smooth conduct of the event.



The meet would be held for about 40 events for men and women with the Blue Riband 100 metres dash taking place on the inaugural day, the officials added.
