Chennai,May 31: Chennai Corporation today began demolition of four floors of a multi-storied building, constructed on a piece of property belonging to Bollywood actress Sri Devi, in the posh Mylapore area. These four floors were unauthorised construction, corporation deputy commissioner Choudayya, who visited the complex today, told reporters.
He said the corporation had permitted construction of only four floors but the builders had constructed eight.
Doubts about the safety of the building were raised as one of the concrete beams developed cracks and gave in last week. Residents of the area had also expressed apprehension that the complex might collapse.
The corporation had asked the promoters of the property to demolish the unauthorised construction of four floors by this afternoon, but the promoters did not comply with the order.
The corporation had engaged a contractor for the demolition and the cost would be recovered from the promoters.
The demolition would be completed in a week.
