West Bengal chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee on Monday said police was on the verge of cracking the kidnapping case involving shoe baron Partho Roy Burman particularly with the arrest of the Dubai-based kidnap mastermind Aftab Ansari. Denying Opposition Trinamool Congress charge that police had achieved nothing significant in solving the kidnapping case of the Khadim owner, the chief minister said, “31 arrests were made in this connection, of whom seven were remanded to judicial custody and eight in police custody. Others obtained bail,” he said. Bhattacharjee said the state CID helped in the arrest of Aftab Ansari by CBI in Dubai. Referring to the wider international ramifications of the case, he said police pursued it in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Benaras and other places. Four persons were arrested from Hyderabad for receiving ransom for Roy Burman's release. Bureau Report
