Ranchi, Apr 12: Jharkhand energy minister Lalchand Mahato today dismissed the idea of privatising power distribution system as "anti-poor". "But I am not averse to give power generation to private party," the minister told a press conference here.
"Private distribution would make a hole in the pockets of the poor. It is state's responsible to electrify all villages and charge them affordable rates," Mahato said.
The minister's reaction comes a day after Jharkhand State Electricity Board chairman Rajiv Ranjan's reiteration that some of the distribution transformers would be contracted out to private agencies on fixed deposit basis.
