Itanagar, Aug 19: The Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (APCOCA), enacted on August 25, 2002, was repealed today with the adoption of the APCOCA Repeal Bill, 2003 by voice vote after a two hour debate in the state assembly.
Taking part in the debate, home minister L Wanglat termed the act, as draconian. It had been adopted in 2002 despite resistance from the then opposition parties, including the NCP, Arunachal Congress, BJP, students organisations and NGOs, he said.

He sought to set at rest apprehension of the current Opposition members that the repeal would give rise to criminal activities, particularly in the insurgency-infested Tirap and Changlang districts.

The bill was repealed as promised by Chief Minister Gegong soon after he was sworn in on August 3.
