Imphal, Sept 08: The underground Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL), which freed suspended manipur revenue commissioner I S Laishram from captivity yesterday, has asked the IAS officer to seek voluntary retirement from service.
Alleging that the official had taken bribes amounting to Rs 60,000 during his tenure as commissioner of the education department, self-styled commander of the KYKL 'Special Task Force' Thoiba Mangang said he should seek VRS within September.
Mangang told this to newspersons before handing over the official to leaders of some local women groups at a place in Thoubal district yesterday.
Laishram, however, told reporters after his release that he had not accepted any bribe and the money had been tossed into his car by two teachers who met him seeking UGC scale. The officer said he had not surrendered to the KYKL as claimed nor had he contacted any militant outfit, but was forcibly taken away.
Official sources said Laishram, who had been in KYKL custody since august 30, was freed at Sugnu area in Thoubal district last evening.
He was suspended by the government three days ago for having links with militant outfits.
