Madurai, July 20: MDMK today said it would not demand repeal or amendment of the anti-terrorism law POTA which has been "misused" by the Tamil Nadu government to arrest its leader Vaiko and others. "MDMK will not press for repeal of POTA nor seek any amendment to the act," Union ministers of state M Kannappan and Gingee S Ramachandran, who visited Sivanthi Appan and former MP Ganesa Murthy, lodged in prison here under POTA, and four other party functionaries detained for their alleged involvement in various criminal cases, told reporters. "The NDA partners have agreed in unison that Tamil Nadu government has misused POTA and condemned the arrest of Vaiko," they said.
Asked whether MDMK will file a counter case in connection with the arrest of Vaiko under POTA, they said the Tamil Nadu government had filed a case and "we know how to face it".
To a question whether Vaiko would himself argue his case, the ministers said no decision had been taken by the party about it.
